The Tennessee State Museum is situated at the corner of Fifth and Deaderick streets. It is one of the largest state museums in the United States with over 60,000 square feet of exhibits, and 10,000 square feet exhibit hall. The Tennessee State Museum consists of art pieces reflecting the state's history about pre-historic age, Frontiers, Age of Jackson, Antebellum, Civil Wars and the Reconstruction periods.
Some of the Museum’s priced collections are silver, weapons, quilts, furniture, artworks and more, revealing the state’s history. One of the most visited and favorite section of the Museum is the a collection about Civil War exhibits because of its display of weapons, uniforms, battle flags and many war memorabilia and considered to be one of the best collections of Civil War artifacts in the country. Another exhibit worth viewing is the collection of unique artifacts connected from the well-known Americans during history especially honoring African American women in Tennessee history. The many historical artifacts collected and displayed in exhibits inside the Museum are quilts, paintings, furniture, firearms and arrowheads or Indian origin. Some pieces found here are unique because these are not found in other historical museums. These rare pieces include the powder horn of Davy Crockett, a life size and rare find painting of the famous President Andrew Jackson and a medal from World War I, the Medal of Acknowledgment of Alvin York.
