One of the oldest parks in the Nashville City that had its official opening to the public last July 4, 1912. Now popularly known as the Shelby Park. The place was originally a private amusement center however, it went bankrupt in 1903. The Board of Parks in 1909 decided to buy the property and turned the land into a park.
The Shelby Park in the east of Nashville has this exotic feature, which gives the tourists an impressive and nice view of the Cumberland River while going towards the direction, is called, the Shelby Bottoms. This Shelby Bottoms is a wide stretch of some 810 acres of sports ground and forest land along a 3 mile extension of the river. Shelby Bottoms started to accept visitors on October 25, 1997. It was opened to the public since then. The Shelby Park is composed of two fields namely, the Shelby 1 and Shelby 2. The original baseball field is the Shelby 1, which opened in 1915, and the Shelby 2 which was developed later as another baseball field. Shelby 2 is located near the current softball field of the park.
